Vanderbilt Fellows Expand Research, Leadership, and Education
By MediaFx
Vanderbilt's Chancellor Faculty Fellows program has enabled participants to take on significant leadership roles and advance their research across various fields. Since its inception over a decade ago, nearly all 144 participants have assumed leadership positions within and beyond their academic disciplines. For instance, Tiffiny Tung, a 2017 fellow, now serves as vice provost for undergraduate education and growth initiatives, while Robert Webster, a 2016 fellow, was senior associate provost for commercialization and technology transfer.
Yesha Yadav, a 2019 fellow and associate dean at Vanderbilt Law School, leveraged her fellowship to engage with regulators, engineers, and academics, which helped her research on digital assets. Her work contributed to her testimony before the Senate Banking Committee following the FTX collapse in 2022. Yadav emphasized that the fellowship's value extends beyond the two-year award, with long-term impacts on relationships and scholarship.
Christin Essin, a 2019 fellow and chair of the Department of Gender and Sexuality Studies, used her fellowship to take a sabbatical and complete her second monograph. She credited the program with expanding her research into theatre labor and shaping her leadership skills. Essin noted that the fellowship introduced her to administrators who reshaped her understanding of university leadership.
Celso Castilho, a 2021 fellow and director of the Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies, expanded educational opportunities for students through new courses and interdisciplinary research. His fellowship supported panels and conferences that connected Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx studies, which were previously uncommon at peer institutions.
